Tips to become a better player
Alright, I have heard alot of complaints of the gameokay in Black Ops. Many people a upset because they get in a slump, or just have a bad day. I barely play anymore, because I have basketball practice two hours a day, 6 days a week. But, if you follow these tips, it should help you step up your game!
1. Make sure you have a good connection.
There is nothing more frusterating than lagging out of a game. Many people have gotten used to it, but it will still affect your gameplay. When you have a 4-bar connection, you will be able to get your shots off faster then someone with a lesser connection.
2. Kill Streaks
Don't think that you will be able to get Dogs if you cant get a carepackage. Set reasonable kill streak. If you know you cant get a 7-9-11 killstreak, don't set it! I personally play TDM with a 3-5-7 kilstreaks.
3. Burstfire
When you have an automatic rifle, and you see someone a long distance away. DO NOT GO FULL AUTO ON THEM!! I can not even count how many times people have done this to me, and I turn around, fire 3 shots, and they're dead. Aim in, and fire 3-4 shots at them, then stop for a second so your crosshairs can recenter, then repeat. You will kill them alot faster and conserve ammo.
4. Avoid the middle of the map
That's always the biggest hotspot and you will have enemies targeting you from all sides. Instead, weave in and out around the sides of the map. This gives you a huge advantage and minimizes your chance of being killed
5. Don't get frustrated
This will neutralize your tactics. It's only a game and it will make you look like a like a little kid. If you get really worked up over it, you will not be thinking clearly, and you will not have a good game. The best thing to do is just back out, and find a new game.
And last but not least........
6. HAVE FUN PLAYING!
Remember guys, it is just a game, and if you get mad at it, you will be too busy swearing and yelling, that you will forget what the game is really about, having fun. Its not about wether you win or lose, but that you have fun playing.
These tips always help me play good(ish).
If there is anything that I missed, let me know, and I will add it!
P.S. If I helped you out, don't be afraid to hit that thanks button
Additions:
Use your Secondary grenades and Equiptment
You have Secondary grenades for a reason. Use them! If you think there is somebody camping in a building, never ever just run into the building like Rambo and pray that you are going to kill them. Flashbang them, or throw a concussion grenade to neutrilize them. You also have equiptment! Use that too! If you have claymores, or a motion senser, just find a good building to 'camp' in, and put down you MS, or Claymore. This will get you alot of kills.
Don't always sprint
Never sprint around corners. If there happens to be an ememy watching, you will die. You wont be able to shoot fast enough because it take a couple seconds to bring up your gun.
Use cover to your advantage
Take cover if you see your enemy last. Chances are, if an enemy sees you first, step back and let him come to you, don't go all Rambo and assume you will magically get the quicker draw on an enemy thats clearly seen you first.
Be aware of your surroundings
Set claymores in hot running routes, know the spawns, and know the normal camping spots of the map (someone is always camping).
Try not to die!
If you are a 1 kill away from a dogs or a gunship don't run out into the middle of the action without a blackbird. Stay back and slowly work yourself into a position to make the kill.
Communication
Try to get a headset if you don't have one. I prefer my turtle beaches. Your enabled to hear the enemies running around, the gunfire, and those pesky RCXD's. This helps to when you do not have a spy plane or black bird and can keep you alive alot longer. When you die, talk to your teammates, so they won't make the same mistake and get killed.
Mix up your gametypes
I like to play objective game modes (especially domination). With this you know enemies spawn by flags you don't have and you know where they are at when trying to take your flag. I recommend never taking all three positions at once (unless you are losing by alot), this can result in random spawning, which is bad for everyone.
Try new weapons
Just because you get comfortable with something doesn't mean you shouldn't mix it up. Change class settings and weapons try them for a while before making a judgement. This will keep you interested in the game too.

I would also add
Slow Down!
If you are sprinting everywhere, chances are you are not going to have the reaction time to stop sprinting and pull up your gun before you get shot.

Also try new weapons, I ran the G11 so long after I unlocked it I didn't wanna except prestige and loose it. Eventually I did prestige and met the most fun gun I've ever known...
...The MPL!
