I've read and spoken with several people that think the silencer acts to calm the natural kick/recoil tendency of most guns in MW3. Aside from the obvious benefits of silenced weapons hiding you, you may also have better accuracy which would eventually translate to more kills. Further, I know I slow my pace considerably when using silenced weapons (rather than run and gun firecrackers of Akimbo somethings), and most maps (and game types) benefit a controlled/methodical approach.
Or, it could just be that I'm 39 years old and don't have the reflexes anymore for run-and-gun/twitch/bunny-hop/drop-shot gameplay
