Warning! Read Before You Prestige!
Well, I got shafted hard on this one so I thought I'd give you all a heads up so it doesn't happen to you too.
When you prestige, play another round before you log off! At least 1, probably more to be safe.
Last Monday (12/11/11) I woke up crazy early for work for some reason, so I thought I would play a few rounds before I got ready. Well I hit max xp on 80 of prestige 2 and thought I'd go ahead and enter prestige mode before I left for work. I got my token, went into the prestige shop to look at the unlock gear. I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted to unlock so I decided to wait till after I got home from work to spend it. I logged off and went to work, come home and the token is gone. Didn't lose my prestige, but I lost the token. I've been told by activision support to wait, I did. Contacted them again on Friday when I still didn't have it, they told me to remove Elite from the PS3 hard drive and reinstall then link it to a new PC account with a different email. I did that, still didn't fix it. So I thought I would talk to them today, they said well just keep waiting while we work on the issue. I asked the CSR if I would ever get my token and he said, "sorry, I don't know the answer to that question."
Fuck me...

I noticed back in COD4 that if you didn't play at least 1 match and level up at least 1 time that when I got back I was a 55 again and had to redo the steps of prestiging.
I've been doing that ever since, I can see where this could happen, Activision should reimburse you the token.

Not looking good so far. Friend of mine, he waited till he hit his first prestige to spend his first 2 tokens from old games along with the new one. Spent them all, leveled to 20 and came back he was unprestiged again and all his tokens gone. That was over 3 weeks ago. He has prestiged 2 times now, only ever spent 1 token, and never got the old ones back.
