DLC Map Prevalences Vary
Since Treyarch released the DLC-only map pack I have been curious about which map(s), if any, Treyarch gave extra weight in regards to map randomization. Below are my findings:
1. Stadium (32.08%)
2. Discovery (24.53%)
3. Berlin Wall (22.64)
4. Kowloon (20.75%)
*Certainty that the actual weights of the 4 maps are not all equal at 25% is only 33.28% based on the first 50 observation. More date will clear this up this figure in 1 direction or another.
These figures come from seeing 53 of maps being drawn in the First Strike playlist, Team Deathmatch gametype (a relatively small number, I know, but I am still collecting data every day!). During the pre-game lobby I tallied each time each map was offered as Next. If the players ended up voting for Random I tallied each time each map was given to the lobby as the Random selection. If I was dropped into a game that was already in-progress I did not tally the map as I could not determine whether or not it was the Next, Previous, or Random map selection.
The first pie chart in the first row below shows the overall occurrences of each of the DLC maps as they were observed in the Team Deathmatch gametype in the DLC-Only playlist. The pie charts in the second row below show the same breakdowns, but each pie breaks out how often each map was offered as next or given as Random (once Random received the most votes in the pre-game lobby). The bar chart in the first row just combines the Next and Random pie charts into one so the data is more easy to compare.
In a previous version of this investigation I completed pre-DLC people thought perhaps the map weightings change based on a variety of factors, such as the number of players online, the time of day, or the number of times a map had been offered as Next in the last 10 games (or something along those lines). I found these ideas interesting so I am currently collecting data that tackles the two simplest in this investigation: time and date. Once I find a good way to display these results I will update this post.
Image is fuzzy here, but if you click it the full-sized version is perfectly legible.
Hopefully this provides some insight for the community. @F C posted shortly after the DLC-Only playlist was announced that it appeared certain maps had slightly heavier weights in the map randomization, so it got me thinking “do they really? And if they do, what are the weights?” So thank F C for this thread! I plan on updating these findings from time to time so stay tuned. Updates will be posted in this original post. I will update the charts here, and will provide links to archived charts when I post the updates.
