It's no secret, Black Ops was highly, highly successful. I mean it surpassed 1 Billion in sales. However, based on pre-order numbers, MW3 would look to be on pace to break another record held by it's own franchise. This would be the third straight year that Call of Duty would break a record. The last two it was only beating itself.

The total for last years Black Ops pre orders 4 weeks to launch for PS3 and Xbox 360 totaled 1,778,074.

This year, the Xbox 360 pre orders almost surpass this number alone.

Totaling up to 2,391,706 four weeks out, MW3 is setting itself up to be one of the most successful games of all time.

Thanks for the update, I had no doubt in my mind that mw3 would blow black ops in sales. All the information that has been put out makes it that much more awsome I'm ready for the midnight release

You have to admit though BlackOps paved the way for MW3. Either noobs to Call of Duty got BlackOps and now want to continue with MW3 or others are sick or hated Blops and ready for a change lol

That is a very valid point, Blops was/is a stepping stone to the new title, on the same note it could be the push new gamers need to buy the other MW games to catch up on the series and know what's going on.

COD 4 Started it. MW2 got it further. Black Ops IMO road the coat tails of MW2. Without MW2, Black Ops would have been another lack luster sales effort like World at War

It would be cool to see a Call of Duty Game beat the record 3 years running.... I created a thread about this some time ago. I think it's awesome that these video games beat the record for entertainment launch more than once, surpassing even popular movies like Harry Potter

Yeah I know, but Ive never heard of CoD4 before MW2. Im just saying a Billion in sales from Blops more veteren gamers and new gamers will appreciate CoD more. In my experience when I talk to.non gamers they didnt know about Call of Duty until Blops.

EDIT: Its early for me. I was just saying new gamers aboard the CoD train lol

It's no shock to me that MW3 is breaking records.

COD4 (MW1) was the "big one" that changed the game. Everything after that is building on it's foundation. We can reference the other COD titles before that but if you do that you might as well talk about the other FPS games that came before it.

W@W and BLOPS did add some stuff. @NuckFuggets made a good thread about 3ARC's important contributions but COD owes its major success to IW.

I know the movie studios are looking at this and drooling. They wish they could have profit margins like this.

Really should be little surprise that this is happening. At least to me, some people seem to think the game will be a flop. But personally i love all things COD. (Also Halo)
