I play 2 gametypes, SnD and FFA. My opinion would be to make a few different classes to use at certain points in the game.
Have a basic AR class.. Whichever is your favorite automatic rifle, with a silencer (I prefer TAR-21). Perks: Marathon, SP, Ninja. This class could basically be used whenever you want.
Make a second class with SMG of your choice, preferably silenced depending on the gun. Make that a Marathon, Lightweight, Ninja class. Ranger Akimbo secondary. Use this class to rush. I can be used on almost every map. There are some maps that are better to sit back on, while others you can just rush the spawn running and gunning. I would use this to rush on maps such as Afghan, Skidrow, Wasteland, Scrapyard, and Quarry.
Make a UMP class with Cold Blooded and the above perks. Switch to this if you ever see somebody get a 3 killstreak, if you see a care package called in, or if you just know that they will have some kind of air support up. Akimbo Raffica secondary.
I always keep a sniping class handy, just for pre-sniping sometimes (depends on the map). Marathon, SP, Ninja. Akimbo Raffica secondary. I wouldn't suggest using a sniper any other time during SnD. I only find it useful on Rundown, Favela, Storm, and sometimes Terminal.
I would also have a OMA noobtube class set up. AR of your choice (I would choose the TAR-21). Only use this class to pre-tube on Bailout, Karachi, and Invasion. If you need the pre-tube spots, I'd suggest watching a YouTube video about them.
Killstreaks should be set lower because you shouldn't really expect to get a lot of kills. Most of the time it is just luck if you do. I would stick with a combination of UAV, Counter UAV, Care Package, Predator, Precision Airstrike, or Harrier.
You should also learn some rush routes on each of the maps. Watch some YouTube videos, follow your friends around a couple times, etc. Learn the maps. 90% of the time you will see people going to the same spots. Take advantage of that. You should also soundwhore you're heart out. Ninja Pro is THE most valuable perk in SnD.
When planting the bomb you should always make sure there is absolutely nobody there. Run around and scope out the area a few times, unless you're quick planting. A good strategy is to carry smokes. Toss one at the other bomb site to act like you're planting there. The other team will most likely give their attention to that area, which is when you have the opportunity to plant at the other objective. When defusing you shouldn't try to be the hero and rush the thing. Check all possible camping spots and if you have a headset, I'd suggest fake defusing. Walk up and tap defuse really quick. This is a good way to draw the enemies from their hiding spots. Simply kill them, then defuse the bomb safely.
By using classes like these and just playing more and more, you should get the hang of SnD, at least by the time BlackOps is out. I hope these tips help. Good luck.

UMP w/ Silencer
M9 Akimbo
Semtex
Flash Grenades
Marathon Pro

S&D class tips
In S&D the best way is to be stealthy and fast therefor you will need marathon, cold-blooded and ninja. Stun grenades and claymore.
A good weapon for this class is UMP45 silenced and a AA12 with extended mags.
At the start of the match try to run towards one of the sides to flank the enemy. If you can get behind them you are golden.

Map knowledge is everything in S&D. And if everything fails you can always play because of cold-blooded pro. But that is not recomended because you will get hated for it
