I didn't really expect to here a discussion on the ak-47 on npr, but thought it was interesting. You can read the article or listen to the interview. It's mainly a short history of how the ak-47 became the most produced/used gun in the world. It also talks a bit about the M16 in it's early days.

Man AK-47 look like an enemy. But it can be yours friends after you wastle your last on an enemy, and then taking their AK.
Still AKs are a hell of a AR tho.

Ah yes the Soviet made AK-47, since the Russians started using the AK-74 and 101 variations i have come to look at the AK-47 as the gun that the IRA use, or Hamas or Hezbollah, or the Taliban, but also the Georgian army, the Vietnamese, Chinese, and the entire Eastern bloc, so yes this gun has seen combat in pretty much every war since its birth....it changed the Battlefield.....still i think of it now as a bad guy weapon lol.

Lol Theres kits for them. Tho its not exactly legal to own n automatic in the U.S.

theres kits to convert an ar 15 into a m16 but you cannot buy an m16 and thats if they catch you with the auto
