I'm horrible with shotguns. Tips?

I have a few of tips for you.
1. Choose a good shotgun. My favs are USAS12 and KSG.
2. The Grip attachment will group your pellets better.
3. Damage is the best proficiency to use. Range is 2nd best.
4. Run the Specialist killstreaks.
5. Make sure you have Steady Aim, and only hipfire.

Once you unlock the Specialist bonus, you will have both Damage and Range on your shotgun. You will immediately notice your shotgun become the most powerful weapon in the game.
Note that if you select Range, it will not give you Damage.

Great advice. I stopped ADS-ing when my buddy told me its best to hip fire, and instantly noticed a huge improvement.

Personally I "quick-scope" with my shotguns. I really do not know why, I just do. It is really up to your play styles though. I personally only run and gun, so I run stalker pro on all of my classes. This way whilst running you don't have to worry about pesky IMS, claymore, or bouncing betty traps whilst running.

Your actually more accurate firing from the hip wen using a shotgun even w.o steady aim, i kno its wierd haha but its been proven through testing. Chek youtube for an in depth explanation n such

Great thread, thanks everyone for the tips. I've been trying out the KSG and have been doing pretty bad but then again I haven't been really applying the tactics you all mention above. I will now though!

Use steady aim, and just keep practicing hip firing over and over. Once you get the coordination down, hip firing is the best way to go and you can quickly take out dudes while not losing mobility. Once you ADS you're an easier target, well unless you have stalker. I never ads with a shotgun though, but I've seen a lot of people do it, so if it works for you than cool, but if you practice a lot with hip firing you'll never go back.

also for me i find that once i get damage prof u can use sitrep pro instead of steady aim as landing as many pellets as possible from each shot in order to 1HK is less of an issue

A good commentator to watch with shotguns is MLC St3alth (or brett21492 on YouTube). He has a road to gold KSG series, which can be pretty fun to watch. Also any shotgun is piss poor until you get Damage usually. I personally don't use shotguns, but KSG or Models all the way.

I am in love with the KSG. I totally sucked at using shotguns but decided to pick up the KSG after it got its damage buff. I would recommend running stalker pro and ADS around corners to get used to the feel of a shotgun, that way you won't be taken by surprise. A good strafe is essential with a shotgun too, especially with pump action ones such as the KSG. It takes a while to load your next shot so dancing around is a good tactic to kill time until you can shoot again (assuming that you missed your first shot.)

The KSG is an absolute beast when you get damage or range on it. Its amount of 1 hit kills is very consistent. I would recommend to pick this one up first. I am now working on the USAS 12, and can hopefully apply these same tactics to it.

The KSG is a great gun, I recently fell in love with the Spas-12 though. It's my favorite besides the model now.

only ones worth using are the usas and striker
