It might not be for some people, but even in my house. It's a want not a need. Therefore if it's not in the budget I either find another way or go without. I'm sure to a lot of people it's a lot of money or like in my case the equivalent to a couple bills.

I earn MS points in various ways legitimately. It takes a long time, but it costs me no money so I don't mind.

The biggest two ways that are quick and easy are Live Rewards (I've earned over 600 points from them already and they're just getting started). Login to the live website and you will find Live Rewards you have to sign up additionally for that. They give you a survey every month worth about 20 MSP and other odds and ends, like you get X number of points every time your renew your gold membership. Once you have 100 MSP they automatically add them to your account the next month.

Then there's Bing Rewards. Kind of like Microsofts version of Swagbucks. Earn points and wait for a "sale" on their MSP points and you can get a pretty good number of points. It takes a while longer, because they don't have a whole lot of ways to earn points after you get started, but free is free right?

If you're a points getter there's always P2S and rewards programs like that. I use them but they take a long time especially if you get as easily destracted as myself.

If you were to dedicate the time to them you could be a LOT faster.

Since I've gotten my xbox I've earned a little over 2100 MSP (counting a 500 point freebie from xbox that I got in my email).
