Sniping Drills and Tips

Here is some tips and drills to help improve all aspects of sniping. I can help in game on ps3 on these but feel free to try them out, give feedback, and help others.

Drills

Hard Scoping:
(Use anything but Quick Draw)

Claymore/Bouncing Betty Shooting-

The title is pretty self-explanatory. Run a class with Claymore(for beginners) or Bouncing Betties(for after you master claymore) and Tactical Insersion and the Sniper or your choice. Pick a big map like Bakaara, Mission, Outpost, etc. Lay down your Claymore/BB and tactical insersion opposite where you are going to be sniping from. Run back to your sniper position and try to snipe your equipment. Kill yourself and then put it in different spot and repeat cycle. If this gets tiresome add a 2nd controller and shoot his claymore instead. This way you still get hit markers but you don't have to keep killing yourself. Only downside you don't get the thrill of the explosion.

Tastes Like Chick'n

Shooting Equipment is fun and all but why not get some live bait?? I know Seatown has chickens i haven't noticed if any other courses have them but shooting a moving chicken (the ones in the back that aren't caged) is a lot harder than you might think. You d have to restart game in order to bring them back to life but it's a short and fun drill that in the end you can eat your prize Can also be used as a quick scoping drill.

Frogger!!

This is a 2+ person drill in which you pick a long corridor (Bakarra one sits on helicopter, hardhat one sits on other side of long middle corridor away from pipe, etc). The sniper(s) finds a spot to stay and try to snipe the runner. The runner is running back and forth ducking in cover jumping ducking anything to avoid being sniped. He's like frogger avoiding cars and trying to get from one side to ther other. If you have multiple snipers the runner can carry a Riot shield or add more members. You can play this with infected and the sniper being the infected and the rest having to run and avoid his sniping.

Quick Scoping:
(Use Quick Draw)

Sentry Shooting-

This drill involves quick scoping a Sentry Gun. You place the sentry against a wall pointing towards where you are going to be running. Run into the place the object is try quickly quickscoping the sentry and then evacuate to cover. Use stuns or flashes to aid in trying to destroy sentry. The objective is to destroy the sentry before its life runs out. Now how you get the entry is all up to you.

Sack of Potatoes-

For beginner quickscopers connect a 2nd Controller and run to him quickscope him and go find him again. A pretty easy laid back drill but does give you confidence and improves your technique.

Quick Scope Party-

There's no better way to work on quickscoping than to having a quickscoping FFA. I recommend using a small course like dome and disabling killstreaks. This increases your reaction time and increases your awareness or your surroundings. 2+ Players the more the merrier. If played right you should be on the edge of your seat the whole time.

Tips

Hard Scoping
-Use Assassin to give you the extra second of your enemy guessing if your friend or foe
-Don't Camp forever, most Players will eventually come to their senses and sneak up behind you
-Use Ex Mags reducing need for reloading and frees up perk 1 because no need for SoH
-Strongly suggest Claymore or BB to cover your rear.
-Don't use the same Ks you use for your Run'n'Gun Class
-Choose your prey. Go for Most likely to kill you before easiest kill
-Marksman=Not even seeing Enemy and Still Kill them.
-Never Snipe Standing unless Behind Object. Prone gives you stealth and more accuracy

Quick Scoping
-Use Quick Draw for faster ADS (no brainer)
-Steady Aim Pro helps some but marksman helps much much more.
-Basketball and Quick Scoping go hand in hand. I find i hit more when i follow through and don't quit early on scope
-Use Ks that don't require Care Packages or User-Control.
-Never waste 2 stuns on one enemy. They are too valuable.
-Don't Camp your name is red and you'll be easily spotted.
-1s1k...All your most likely going to get is 1 shot. Make it worth it.

MEMBER DRILLS AND TIPS

1) For beginners, aim your cross hair at the enemy and simply aim in the scope and shoot.
2) Try to quickscope while moving around.
3) Practice the drag scope. First, you aim down the scope and quickly drag the scope's sights to the enemy. But, do it quickly to make it quickscoping.
4) Predict the future. When an enemy is coming from behind the wall, immediately aim down your scope that way when he appears from the wall, you can already shoot him.
5) Use 8-10 Sensitivity.

@iLEGACY PANDA a cool Quick Scoping drill is to shoot out the windows of cars by Quickscoping. Some cars are outside of maps making it harder and more fun.

All good tips. One of my favorite things is to get into a 5-10 person FFA sniping match with my clan mates. It gives everyone valuable QS experience, and I find it way more fun than infection or other private matches.

Alternatively, to show more how it will be in matchmaking, my clan will sometimes do 4v4 sniper scrimmages, which helps, since you dont have to look over your shoulder as often as in FFA.

Im surprised that this post doesnt have more responses. It is alot of good info. For me though, I am bad at quick scoping, so I rarely use sniper in matchmaking. We have a good sniper on our team, so I let him do the heavy lifting there. I take care of business with my ACR or MP7 mostly.

I am very tempted to try these tips but I have yet to mess with the snipers in MW3. I used to use them in certain MW2 maps but quickscoping wasn't my thing.

Well they are the best sniping core of snipers since Cod4. The two bolt action are the major quickscoping rifles. The Barrett is the hardscope favorite but I like the L11 as a hardscoper and have it Gold. All the drills are pm and I suggest doing each for 15 mins a piece when you're feeling a sniper pick me up!!

i used to use blind eye for my second perk but i found that sleight of hand pro works better for me since i can switch from my rifle to my machine pistol faster...just a tip.
