Lostmygun if you like using that one gun then just use that one gun IF you wanna rank up quicker then use paces guide.

Personally I just use a handful of guns per prestiege then next time ill use a different gun, sure its not the best way to do it but I use the guns I enjoy at the time.

I thought the same but I didnt wanna hurt his feelings, my play time is 2 1/2 and im rank 27. Each to their own, might not have much experiance at cod or just chillaxes whilst he plays

This thread is great.

One thing to factor in, and it is just on a personal basis, is your ability to get kills with different weapons.

For instance, in BLOPS I can't seem to get kills with sniper rifles and semi-auto assault rifles......and even the burst (M16) drastically lowers my kills per match compared to even the Enfield but it is a huge drop compared to the FAMAS/GALIL.

So while you might get more xp per kill by switching weapons. You may be slowing your overall xp earning rate down due to switching to weapons you have a considerably lower kill rate with. So people need to keep that in mind.

I think the best strategy is to find the balance between switching weapons around to earn the different xp bonuses while trying to make sure you aren't wasting time on weapons you simply don't perform well with. No/few kills with some weapon even with the bonus per kill is worse that lots of kills with a weapon you are more comfortable with.

This is compounded by killstreak xp bonuses awarded and xp for assists or offense/defense xp bonuses. You will get more of these types of xp boosts if you use weapons you do the best with instead of just switching through 8 weapons simple because you want the 500 kill bonus for that weapon.

I like to just have a few weapons and be really solid with them. I'll get an SMG for smaller maps and an assault rifle for larger maps and maybe an LMG for when I want to bunker down near an objective on certain maps. You can extend that to maybe 2 AR's, 2 SMG's and then 2 LMG's and switch them out after hitting 500 kills.

But the fastest way to actually up your xp is to be killing stuff. If you aren't good enough to get relatively similar numbers of kills with 8 or more different weapons then you should back off on the total number of weapons and focus on 4 or 6 that get you more of the other xp bonuses in the form of killstreaks/defense medals/assists.
