First, I'd stay the hell away from any place like Wal-Mart and other big name stores. Too many people will be hoarding that place and will be the first to be destroyed by the outbreak.
Then I would jump in my car and hopefully make it the three miles to my work. It's a pretty big warehouse with only a few entrances, that are all very secure, or securable. No guns or anything there, but a bunch of items that could be used for hand to hand weapons. Plus, it has a backup power generator and I would be able to get water for awhile. The warehouse also has pretty high metal racks which you could use to make some sort of high shelter should the doors fail at any time. The racks are large and long enough to move around and bunker down comfortably for some time and totally inaccessible without either climbing or using a standing lift.
We also have a bunch of company vehicles, most of which are along these lines:

After the warehouse is fully secure and I'm sure of it, I would load up in one of the sprinters (pic above), and head out to find extra supplies and possible weapons and fill up containers of gas/diesel to take back to the warehouse to keep for the vehicles should I head back out (this would most likely be done during several days, getting the gas and supplies, and then look for weapons). I would pretty much stay there in hopes that humanity is restored, or enough to get by. I'd have computers, faxes, and TV as well until everything pretty much disappears off the grid.
